Start of building activities for Straat van Messina

The integrated environmental permit for the realisation of the apartment complex has been granted by the municipality of Amstelveen.

The lot has been completely cleared of structures; the synagogue was demolished at the end of 2017, and the poplars were cut down by the municipality of Amstelveen in March 2018.

Preparations for the building activities will commence on 4 June. This can include levelling the lot and preparing the building site (putting fencing around construction site, preparing access route for construction traffic, and placing construction trailers etc.). As soon as the lot has been levelled and the building site has been prepared, sheet piling will be put in place. This will start in week 26 and will last approximately two weeks. Then, in weeks 28/29, the ground piles will be put in place. This will take approximately 3 weeks to complete. After all 110 ground piles have been placed, excavation activities will start in order to remove the soil to the depth necessary for the underground basement.

A six-week planning schedule for the building activities is presented below and will be updated every six weeks. We will do everything we can in order to minimise the disturbance caused by the building activities whenever possible.

Taking into account a construction time of approximately 17 months, the apartment complex is scheduled for completion at the end of 2019/beginning of 2020. The apartments will be offered for rent in the second quarter of 2019.

The construction activities will be carried out by our regular partner, the contractor H&R Bouw B.V from Amsterdam. The sheet piling and ground piles will be put in place by gebr. Van ’t Hek, specialising in foundation technology, and the earthwork will be carried out by Sturm Zaandam B.V.
