Heineken Hoek building shell to be started in the new year!

In the autumn of 2021, the Deegen company carried out the excavation activities for the new basement in order to prepare for the pile driving activities for the new Heineken Hoek. The installation of the bored piles, which involves a minimum of noise and vibration, was started in mid-November. The last bored piles were installed before Christmas. The pile driving activities were carried out by the Waalpaal company, which is part of Gebr. Van ’t Hek. The building activities have presently been halted for two weeks due to the Christmas vacation.

In the 2nd week of January, the main contractor, J.P. van Eesteren, will start getting the building site ready by installing fencing, construction trailers, and other material. At the same time, the earthwork and construction activities needed to prepare for the realisation of the tower crane foundation will be started; the tower crane will be built up in March 2022. The concrete work and construction of the new basement will start in mid-January 2022. The basement floor is scheduled to be poured at the end of January, and the entire basement including walls is scheduled to be finished by the end of February 2022. After that, the construction activities for the Heineken Hoek will proceed at successively higher heights. The building shell is expected to be completed in January 2023. Construction activities for the outer façade will be started in the spring of 2023.

The inner façade will feature white plate material in a triangular pattern with three different depths, creating a subtle relief. This material, colour and pattern will continue into the roof sections, with the same elements determining the look. The glass outer façade of the new Heineken Hoek (the so-called “2nd envelope”) is constructed from glass triangles positioned at a variety of different angles. This unique construction of the transparent façade – designed by MVSA Architects – will give the Leidseplein a fresh and transparent look: a diamond shaped outer façade. The glass façade will be produced and installed by the Octatube B.V. company from Delft.

The new Heineken Hoek will open its doors for its guests after the summer of 2023. The basement, the ground floor and the 1st floor will house cafés and dining facilities; the upper floors will accommodate a four-star hotel.

The contractor will periodically distribute an information newsletter describing the progress, planning, and other relevant activities. The contractor will distribute the newsletter in the neighbourhood of the Heineken Hoek, and we will also place the newsletter on our project website.
